Navigating Twixmas (Dec 26th - 31st) and The Post Christmas Feast Bloat

As we approach the enchanted days between Christmas and New Year, or as I like to call it, 'Twixmas,' I wanted to share a bit about how I keep the festive season balanced and full of positive vibes. So, grab your favourite herbal tea, and let's chat about the healthy habits that keep me, Tegan Barton, your friendly naturopath, feeling fantastic during this '“limbo” time.

  1. Rise, Shine, and Unplug

In my Twixmas mornings, I kick things off by giving my phone the silent treatment for at least the first hour. Instead, I use this time, usually reserved for to-do lists, for some leisurely reading or bundling up for a refreshing walk with my loved ones.

  2. Banish the Christmas Bloat

Let's talk about that post-feast bloat—we've all been there! My go-to remedy? A soothing cup of peppermint or ginger tea. These natural herbs can help ease digestive discomfort and promote a happy, bloat-free belly. Additionally, incorporating gentle movement, like a short stroll after a big meal, can do wonders to aid digestion and prevent that 'stuffed' feeling.

  3. Move, Groove, and Banish 'Cabin Fever'

With all the holiday indulgence, I make it a non-negotiable to move my body. Whether it's a post-feast country walk or an occasional Pilates class, I see movement as a way to feel good and shake off any 'cabin-fevery' vibes.

  4. Embrace the Slow in Fitness

Short days and Christmas chaos can throw off our fitness routines. My advice? Embrace the slowness. Taking a week off won't undo your hard work. I swap the gym for walks and the occasional Pilates class during this relaxed period.

  5. Family, Food, and Stress-Free Festivities

Christmas is about collective family rest, but I get the stress that can come with it. Solution? We all pitch in with designated tasks and keep gift-giving simple with Secret Santa. Hosting this year? No problem—prep is my secret to a laid-back Christmas dinner.

  6. Nature Therapy for Mental Wellbeing

To keep my mental health in check, I soak up nature, steal moments of solitude, and prioritise good sleep. Let's be real, Christmas is exhilarating but also exhausting!

  7. Comfort Cooking Magic Cooking during the holidays is a joy for me. I love crafting homey meals like bacon & eggs, lasagne, and salads. And of course, the leftover turkey transforms into a delightful curry on Boxing Day.

  8. Reject Christmas Diet Culture

I won't let diet culture dim my Christmas sparkle. I encourage balanced meals, hydration, and a sprinkle of chocolate without the guilt.

  9. Hydration for Happy Holidays

Amidst the festive cheer, staying hydrated is a game-changer. I make it a point to sip water throughout the day, infusing it with a splash of citrus or a handful of berries for a tasty twist. Hydration is key for keeping energy levels up and supporting overall well-being, especially during the hustle and bustle of the holiday season.

Remember, Twixmas is a time to indulge in joy, not discomfort. So, whether it's a mindful sip or a bloat-busting remedy, prioritise your well-being and savour every moment of this magical season.
